I've been playing around with powerTop lately. This neat app will tell you which app or software or device is consuming your electrical bill. Just by following it's  simple sugestion, I could turn down my notebook average electrical usage from 20 something Watts (2 hours usage) to around 16-17 Watts (2.5-3.5 Hours usage) ..

Next is using some of the advance sugestion .. been having dificulties in applying the needed patch on my running kernel .. from what I've read it could decrease the usage to around 13 Watts ..

My notebook is going green .. 

We are engineers, accountants, sales person, managers even president directors..

but not for 3 days and 2 nights.. on thoses days we were singer, dancer, pool players, swimmers, jet skiers, actors and actresses, etc.. for 3 days and 2 nights we have the luxury of forgetting that we have clients to satisfied, problems to troubleshoot, deadlines to be fullfiled.. we were just ordinary guys and gals having fun.. even my president director show his wild side :p

i guess that sums up my weekend.. I was attending my company yearly outing and fy2008 kick-off meeting.. It's been a year since I join this company.. a year full of challange.. and last weekend I got to see how profesional and goal oriented this company is.. and they really know how to motivate their employee to give even more than what they already gives.. I mean who would'nt be motivated with the promise to have that kind of weekend for every 4 months ?? :p

My way of cheating the overcrowded traffic in Jakarta :

 - Use Busway .. I know it's also crowded .. I know sometimes it takes years to come .. but from my personal experience, it's still a lot better than driving in a traffic ..

 - Leave the house around 8/9am .. need less time, use less energy, more productive .. (but you'll need to be working @ somewhere who don't care about absency)

 - If I'm still somehow stuck in traffic .. well I just enjoy it .. no point for being angry  at other people .. you'll just waste your precious energy .. read something, listen to mp3 or the radio, watch the movies, or just browse around .. another reason why I love my new gadget and why I use busway whenever I can .. can't do all of these if you were driving ..

The good :

Small, HSDPA, FM-Radio, Latest Symbian, could be use to watch mp4 movies, quite cheap..

The bad :

Small (too small for my hand :p), even though it has USB Port, it can't be charged using usb.. no reminder for any un-read or un-noticed sms and/or miss-called .. 

it's my Nokia 6120 ..

I suspect it would be the new 'a million people phone'.. 

Sudah menjadi pengetahuan umum bahwa macet di jakarta disebabkan oleh jumlah kendaraan yang tidak sebanding dengan panjang dan lebar jalan..
Setiap tahunnya jakarta hanya menambah panjang dan lebar jalan sebanyak 1% sementara pertumbuhan jumlah mobil dan motor pribadi jauh diatas
itu.. Setiap kali ada pembuatan fly-over ataupun underpass hanya membuat jalan menjadi lancar untuk sementara waktu, padahal pada saat
pembangunan membuat macet lebih parah dari biasanya.. Jadi solusi macet jakarta adalah untuk mengurangi jumlah kendaraan yang ada di jakarta..

Ada beberapa komponen yang bisa digunakan untuk mengurangi jumlah kendaraan di jalanan :
1. Naikkan pajak kendaraan
2. Naikkan harga BBM
3. Naikkan tarif parkir

Nomor 1 dan 2 jika dilakukan akan berpengaruh terhadap rakyat kecil.. seperti yang sudah terbukti ketika pemerintah menaikkan harga BBM,
harga-harga baranga lainnya ikut naik karena naiknya komponen transportasi.. selain itu kebijakan seperti ini membutuhkan keputusan pemerintah
pusat, jadi tidak bisa dibuat oleh pemprov jakarta saja..

Nomor 3 sepertinya paling ideal.. Jangan tanggung-tanggung, naikkan parkir menjadi Rp 20.000,-/jam misalnya dan diperbaharui setiap tahun sesuai
dengan inflasi.. Yang akan terkena pengaruhnya adalah kalangan middle-class.. Rakyat kecil tidak akan terpengaruh malah justru akan diuntungkan.. karena :
1. Kendaraan umum tidak parkir, jadi kenaikkan tarif parkir tidak perlu berlanjut dengan kenaikkan tarif angkutan umum -> komponen transport
   tidak perlu naik -> harga barang-barang lainnya tidak ikut naik
2. Industri angkutan umum (yg kebanyakan rakyat kecil) justru akan mendapatkan profit karena akan banyak orang naik angkutan umum
3. Polusi jakarta berkurang, udara lebih bersih, rakyat tidak mudah sakit. Begitu juga dengan tingkat stress bisa berkurang
4. Tingkat kecelakaan lalu-lintas akan berkurang
5. Polantas bisa dikurangi dan bisa dipindahkan ke fungsi layanan lainnya

Kebijakan ini akan memutus rantai chicken and egg, siapa duluan yang perlu bergerak, pengguna kendaraan pribadi berpindah kendaraan umum baru
kualitas kendaraan umum menjadi lebih baik atau sebaliknya..

Kebijakan menaikkan tarif parkir bisa diikuti dengan kebijakan untuk merubah sebagian lahan parkir menjadi taman (untuk lahan parkir
horizontal) atau tempat penampungan air (untuk lahan parkir vertikal).

Ada beberapa pengecualian untuk kebijakan ini:
1. Fasilitas Park and Ride.
   Untuk mempermudah pengguna angkutan umum berpindah dari kendaraan pribadi ke kendaraan umum. Diberlakukan kebijakan sekali bayar untuk
   1 hari. Sekaligus untuk mendorong penggunaan kendaraan umum.
2. Tempat parkir klinik atau RS

Mungkin kebijakan ini akan menambah jumlah orang yang mempergunakan supir jadi tidak perlu parkir, tapi sepertinya pertambahannya tidak
akan signifikan. Lagipula hal ini juga akan berpengaruh positif karena akan menambah lahan pekerjaan.

Satu-satunya efek negatif dari kebijakan ini adalah, industri otomotif akan turun. Industri ini selama ini menjadi salah satu tulang punggung
pertumbuhan ekonomi dan sektor yang cukup banyak menyerap tenaga kerja. Tapi seharusnya hal ini bisa dihadapi dengan merubah orientasi produksi
menjadi eksport serta merubah kapasitas produksi menjadi lebih banyak memproduksi kendaraan umum (yang akan meningkat penggunaannya)..

In the last few days, there's been a debate about an upcoming regional Law that prohibit someone from becoming a beggar and for someone to give money to beggars.. There's arguments saying that the law violates human rights, that it's discriminate the poor ..

well I disagree with them .. why ??

1. For me, being poor or being rich is a state of mind .. there's nothing the government or anyone else could to change that situation in you.

2. From what I know (CMIIW), there's not a single 'poor' word in the law. The government will still support the honest, straight work for living people who is underpayed.

3. It's been public knowledge that a lot of beggars do what they do because they earn a lot of money from it. They even do a few tricks to get people simpathy, like renting (or even kidnapping) small kids or make some kind of ugly looking wounds..

4. If you really wanna help, you could still do it through the proper channel..

So for me, this new law is a must .. specially for a capital city like Jakarta .. 

when you're driving a car, it's always good to have your RPM at the right place .. having it to high, you'll burn your car, having it to low, your risk damaging your engine and/or wasting fuel ..

the same thing with your workload .. having it at the right level is essential to healthy living .. mine have been at overdrive for quite sometimes now.. so when i got the assignment to work on project at Jogja, i figure it's a chance to lower my 'rpm' a bit .. but I never expected to be this low ..

you see .. it's 10.30am .. and I'm still at my hotel writing blogs .. why ?? because I know that if I go to my workplace at this very moment, I'll have nothing to do .. and they say that I have to finish everything by tomorrow, considering that it'll be long weekend ahead of us ..

so ... right now .. my rpm is so low, i think it's starting to damage my brain :(

well, everything has to start and to end somewhere doesn't it ?? 

as much as i hate to admit, there are some programs that are not available in the linux world and sadly I need those program to work. Checkpoint's secureClient is one of them and I need it in order to connect to my office VPN. MS Visio is also another. Sure I could use DIA (and I found DIA as a very-very good thing), but my teammates and clients use Visio, so like it or not I have to use it. So, I decided to use VMWARE, so that I could use Windows, on top of linux. This way, I don't have to reboot in order to use those apps and I also found that Windows runs better this way. At least I have less worries about the viruses :p

Anyway, about a few weeks ago, I notice that the clock in the windows is running a lot faster than the one on Linux.. after reading some sites and the vmware's whitepaper on time management, I found the problem and the cure. The problem is with the new capability for cpu to go slower in order to save power. I guess vmware can't handle this situation correctly, so whenever the cpu goes fast (because of the workload), the times in vmware engine also goes faster. Now for the cure.. just enter this parameter into the /etc/vmware/config file :

host.cpukHz = 1700000 --> change this to your max cpu speed
host.noTSC = TRUE
ptsc.noTSC = TRUE

another thing is too install vmware tools and set it to sync time. It would seems that vmware tools would only sync time when it's running late, not when it's faster. So what we basicly did is telling vmware to expect 1700Mhz of speed. Whenever the cpu speed goes slow (thus making the clock runs late), the vmware tool will sync the time to its host..

gak install software baru... gak konek ke jaringan .. gak ada usb atau disket yg  digunakan..

gw rasa ini fitur utamanya winXP .. rusak tanpa alasan jelas .. bisa masuk ke safe-mode sih.. tapi habis itu gak bisa ngapa-ngapain jg .. ditawarin buat balik ke settingan disebuah tanggal dimana sistem masih baik-baik aja, ternyata gak bisa jg..

dasar .. OS Kacangan .. kaya' gini kok maunya kalo ada yg install ulang lebih dari 3 kali harus lapor ke mereka .. dodol ..

sebuah tulisan yang gw baca di sebuah jalan yang membuat gw tersenyum miris.. karena jika itu benar, maka pribadi bangsa ini adalah pribadi perompak yang kejam..

kenapa perompak ?? perompak tidak akan segan-segan untuk mengambil hak orang lain tanpa malu-malu.. well that's exactly what happened.. motor dan mobil sudah tidak malu-malu lagi untuk mempergunakan jalur busway yang BUKAN HAK-nya.. jalur yang semestinya 1 arah, menjadi 2 arah karena ada pihak-pihak yang egois.. pejalan kaki tidak bisa dengan tenang mempergunakan HAKnya untuk berjalan di trotoar karena harus bersaing dengan sepeda motor..

kenapa kejam ?? karena seorang suami sudah tidak sayang lagi dengan istri dan anaknya sehingga tega membiarkan mereka naik motor tanpa pengamanan yang memadai.. seorang pria bisa dengan teganya duduk di sebuah bis tanpa memperdulikan ada ibu2 yang sedang berdiri..

well i guess we could just make another movie called "Pirates of Jakarta" 

dari dulu gw gak pernah suka sama organisasi yang satu ini.. kesannya organisasi penuh dengan begundal.. tapi hari ini gw bener2 muak .. perjalanan gw pake busway koridor 6 dari halte karet kuningan ke halte kuningan madya (halte sebelahan) yang mestinya gak lebih dari 2 menit, jadi lebih dari 15 menit !!! semuanya gara-gara begundal2 ini memutuskan untuk melakukan demo di depan kedutaan australia..

banyak banget penumpang 1 bis gw (dan gw jg yakin bis lain) yang berdecak resah karena mungkin kehilangan waktu yang berharga.. dan gw yakin banget demo mereka tidak menghasilkan apapun!!!
